All Saints Episcopal Church

The Outdoor Adventure Group

Co-leaders: Kaye Staggs and Frank Philpott

The Episcopaddlers and Outdoor Adventure Group is a kayak, canoeing, camping, and hiking club.  It is a way for those who love the outdoors to connect with other people who have the same interest.  From September through June we hike every third Saturday of the month. Hikes consist of easy to moderate walks.  We should actually be called The All Saints Strollers, because this group is not about speed or distance but letting ourselves be a part of The Creators majesty and beauty.  The length is usually between 2 and 7 miles  We take our time as we stop to smell the flowers or identify a bird that is singing in the tree. Its about enjoying the company of old and new friends as we share our adventures in the outdoors.  After our hikes, we have a picnic lunch or visit a restaurant in the area.  Most hikes are within a hundred mile radius of the church, we meet before and ride up to the trail head together.  This Club is open to anyone that would like to attend. Young people under the age of sixteen will need a parent or sponsor to accompany them.

Q.  Do you have to be a member of All Saints to join the Outdoor Adventure Group?
A.  No, everyone is invited to join us. Young people under the age of 16 must have a sponsor or         parent to accompany them on the hikes or activities.  You may be asked to sign a form releasing the church from any liability in case of accident. All we ask is that you to keep in             mind  that this is a Christian Group sponsored by the Church.

Q.  Are the hikes strenuous?
A.  Most are easy to moderate, from 1-7 miles, hikers are informed before the date of the hike if  it is a strenuous one. There will be a schedule of the hikes planned for the year. They will be available September 1, 2007.  You may pick one up in the office at All Saints or by contacting Kaye Staggs 479-970-9316 or by email kstaggs724@yahoo.com

Q.  Do we each take our own car to the trail head?
A.  You can if you like.  We usually meet at a convenient place to see how many are going.  We   then compact into as many cars as we need.

Q.   What do you need to take on a day hike?
A.    Hats, walking sticks, good walking shoes (no flip flops or that type of footwear), cameras,   medications you may need, WATER, snacks for the trail, sunscreen, sun glasses,  insect   repellent. Dressing in layers if it is cold.  Just anything you think you may need for the day. Never forget your water

Q.   Do we have lunch or dinner on the trail?
A.   We always take snacks for the trail.  After the hikes we usually go to a restaurant in the area that we are hiking, or we take a picnic lunch and eat in a park or at the trail head.

Q.   Will I have a hard time keeping up with everyone?
A.    No, we are not power walkers, we should be called All Saints Strollers, the object of our                walking is to slow down for a day, take some time from the hectic world and enjoy the Beauty of Gods Creation.  Have a good time in fellowship with some really nice people.  No one is ever left behind, if one gets tired most of us just stop and take a break.

Q.    How many usually hike?
A.    It varies. As long as four people want to walk, a hike will not be canceled.  We usually have           around five to eighteen people.

Q.    Does it cost anything?
A.     The only cost would be for drinks or food.
